How to Compare Vacation Properties

Looking at potential vacation properties  can be one of the most exciting times in your life. There are millions of different places that you could buy a vacation property. At each location, there are many houses to choose from. If you are going to choose the best property for you and your family, you need to compare them accurately. Here is how to compare vacation properties and choose the best one for you.

Before you start to look at vacation properties, you should make a list of all of the features that you want. Write down the number of bedrooms you need, bathrooms, and everything else that you want. Then when you start looking, you can easily eliminate the properties that do not have the features that you want. Most real estate websites allow you to select the features that you want before you even start looking. Therefore, if you are in the market for a four-bedroom house, you can easily eliminate all of the two and three bedroom houses without wasting your time. Look at all of the houses that have the features you want and make a list of the top five houses.

Once you have a list of five houses, it is time to consider where each one is located. For example, if the house is located right on the beach, they will usually feature that information prominently somewhere in the ad Having a house on the beach is a very big selling feature. Therefore, you can rest assured if the location is great, they will usually mention it.

If the ad has the address of the property on it, you can do your own research and find out where it is located. Type the address into a maps program online or into a GPS. This will give you a great idea of what is around the property and if it is on the waterfront. Many times with a vacation house, you want to be close to something. You will want to be near the ocean, lake, or mountains in some cases. Make sure you know how close you are to whatever attraction is close by your home.

Besides features and location, you will also want to compare the prices of the prospective houses. While price should not be your only consideration, it will definitely play an important role in your decision. Unless you have unlimited funds to use, you will usually have to work within a budget. Rank your list of properties in order of 1 through 5. Put the prices out to the side and see which one represents the best value for you. If number 2 is the least expensive of the 5 then you might have a good match.
