3 Ways to Evaluate Prospective Moving Companies

Evaluating moving companies is something that almost everyone has to do at some point. You get to a certain point in life where it just makes more sense to hire someone to help you move than to do it yourself. Your family has so much stuff that it would take way too much work to move everything. Therefore, you start to consider the many moving company options that you have in your local market. A good moving company can make the process so much easier and stress-free for you. A bad company can ruin everything and make you wish that you would have done it yourself. This means that you need to do your homework when it comes time to select a moving company. Here are a few ways that you should evaluate your potential moving companies before you make a decision.

1. Experience

One of the first ways that you should compare all of the moving companies that you are considering is by years of experience. Find out exactly how long that they have been in business. Ask for proof if they can offer it. You want a company that has been doing this for a number of years and is still in business. Bad moving companies have a tendency to go out of business quickly. Therefore, if you find one that has been in business for a long time, that is usually a good sign.

2. Customer Referrals

One of the most powerful ways to find out about a moving company is to ask around. Many people that you know were moved into their current homes by a local moving company. This means that they can offer you some sort of an opinion on the moving company that they used. If someone had a negative experience with a particular company, you can rest assured that they will be more than happy to tell you about it. These people will go out of their way to let you know when you should stay away. If you find that a company has several negative opinions among your friends, you should probably just eliminate it.

3. Better Business Bureau

The leading authority on businesses and how they treat their customers is the Better Business Bureau. The Better Business Bureau has a detailed report on every business that has been in operation for a long enough period of time. If your moving company has been in the area as long as they claim, they will undoubtedly have a profile on the Better Business Bureau. You can go on their website and look up any company that you want. Type in the name of the moving company and they should have a profile. The Better Business Bureau profile will have all of the information that you need to evaluate their customer service. They will offer you a cumulative grade based on their criteria. It will also show how many people have filed complaints against them in the last few years.
