The National SMART Grant is designed to provide financial aid for students in the engineering, math, science, technology or foreign language fields. This grant's name stands for the National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant. 

In order to qualify for this type of grant, you have to be enrolled at least half time in an accredited college. You also have to have a GPA of at least 3.0 in order to qualify.

If you are approved for this program, you can receive as much as $4000 per year during your third and fourth years on campus. This is a program designed to help undergraduate students. When you receive this money, you do not have to pay it back at any point in the future, as you do student loans.

In order to have a chance at this particular grant, you have to be a United States citizen or an eligible non-citizen. You also have to be eligible for a Pell Grant during the same school year. You also have to be enrolled in courses that you need in order to pursue a degree in your chosen field of study.
