Reading Your ETF Prospectus

An ETF prospectus is an important document. If you are considering buying shares of an ETF, the prospectus is what will tell you whether or not you should get involved. It has a lot of detailed financial information on it that should not be overlooked by potential investors. Here are a few things that you should look for when reading your ETF prospectus.

The ETF prospectus will tell you exactly what makes up the fund. It will highlight all of the different stocks that it owns. It will tell you whether or not they have bonds or other assets. It will tell you the exact mix of everything that they own. This will let you know exactly what you are investing in by buying a share. 

Charts

The ETF prospectus also will usually include several charts and graphs of historical data. These charts will tell you exactly how the ETF has performed in the last few years. It will help you determine if the performance matches what you are looking for in an ETF.

Rules

The ETF prospectus will also set forth any rules or regulations that you have to go by. It will let you know if there are any limitations on buying or selling shares of the ETF.
