Does Renters Insurance Cover Flood Damage?

The renters insurance flood clause is without a shadow of doubt, one of the most fiercely contested and misunderstood terms of all the various insurance clauses that exists This ignorance is a blessing for the insurance companies and a major drawback for the customers.  After all, when faced with a contract that is about 50 pages thick, who in their right mind would want to read the small print?

Special Policy

Put simply: the only way that a customer who has taken out an insurance policy will be actually protected from damage caused by a flood is if they take out a special policy which is only available through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and no other way.

Who Can Get Flood Insurance

Another common misconception that surrounds the issue of renters insurance flood clause is that it cannot be taken out or relied upon by people who live in an area that is particularly susceptible and vulnerable to floods. This is not true. The only limit imposed on the eligibility of a citizen would be that their state actually participates in the NFIP and nothing more. The program was devised as a national scheme and so is open to all.
