Department of Labor (DOL)

Part of the cabinet of the U.S. government, the Department of Labor enforces and supports the U.S. labor market. Promulgated by the Department of Labor are the labor laws concerning occupational safety, minimum wages and hours, and unemployment insurance benefits. These labor matters are all handled by the department. The department is under the wing of the Deputy Secretary of Labor. All in all, the Department of Labor seeks to improve the working conditions of the U.S. workforce by enforcing federal laws. Currently the workforce counts at 125 million workers and roughly 10 million hiring employers.
