Learn the Basics of ACH Debit Programs

ACH debit programs are becoming very common in today's banking system. This type of payment can provide you with a number of benefits. The term ACH stands for Automated Clearing House. With this system, money can be transferred from one bank account to another, without using a check or debit card. Large numbers of transactions are processed every day through the Automated Clearing House system. Every bank now uses this system for a large number of their transactions.

Examples

There are many different types of transactions that would fit into the category of an ACH transaction. For example, when you have your paycheck automatically deposited into your bank account from your employer, this is done through ACH. When you automatically pay your bills, such as your mortgage, your electric bill, your phone bill or anything else, this is done through an ACH payment. When you get your tax refund or make automatic tax payments, this is typically processed through an ACH transaction. Many businesses also make direct business-to-business payments through an ACH network.

Pros

Using this system can provide you with several advantages. One of the biggest advantages that you will get is convenience. When you utilize ACH transactions, you don't have to remember to pay your bills. Instead, you simply set up the automatic payment and it will be paid automatically, without any further intervention.

Another advantage of this system is that you are not going to have to write checks. Many people do not like having to physically write checks and this can be a good way to get around it. On top of that, you do not have to worry about paying for postage and envelopes and mailing your check every month.

Another big advantage of using this system is that you are not going to have to worry about your payments getting delivered. You will not have to worry about late payments because a check got lost in the mail. Instead, the company is in charge of deducting your account when they need to. This takes a lot of responsibility off of your plate.

Using the ACH debit program is also going to help the environment. You are not going to have to use as much paper and everything can be done electronically.

Cons

Even though this system can be beneficial, there are a few drawbacks that you should be aware of. For example, with this system, you are going to have to give your private banking information to numerous companies. They are all going to have your bank account number and your routing number. Another potential problem with this system is that they could take out the wrong amount of money from your account. While you should be able to get the problem fixed, you will still have to go through the trouble of fixing it. Long weekends, or holidays, can be especially difficult to get through because your money will be on hold for some time and will not be able to access it.
