Which Hotel Tax Exempt Form Do You Need?

A hotel tax exempt form allows for different state officials and agencies to get tax exempt status while traveling or staying in a hotel. Identifying what form you need means that you just need to identify where you will be traveling. There are different rules for different states so contact the states that you will be going to.


Different Forms

Each state has its own for hotel tax, tax exempt status. While making your travel plans it is a good idea to get faxed or preprinted internet forms that can be filled out prior to your travel. If you cannot find reference to the forms on line or a phone number to contact, try contacting the state tax board for information related to travel related exemptions. Some states do not charge a tax or do not offer the hotel tax exemption so be sure to check with the public agency in charge and verify.

Required Information

The required information on the forms is basic information that you will most likely have readily available. It will require: your name and address and the organizations name and address the rest will be filled out by the hotel. You will need to already have tax exempt status in order to take advantage of this program.

When you are traveling on state, federal or tax exempt organizational business you will want to take advantage of these exemptions. You can file to receive the money back after you have paid but it is much easier to take care of it at the time of travel.
