Step-By-Step: Filling Out an S-Corporation Tax Form

Filling out an S- Corporation tax form is not difficult. It requires information about the company and how it will be filing taxes.

The first part of the form needs to be filled out with the name, address, EIN, date of incorporations and the state that the company was incorporated in. The next question refers to if a name or address has changed since the EIN was applied for. You will then choose when to make the tax filing change. Once you have chosen the date then you will need to choose the preferred method that the filing will take place,

Fiscal years, Calendar year or a 52-53 week year with a choice of which month to end it. Section G will need to be checked if there are more than 100 shareholders listed on the form in section J. The IRS needs to know who to contact for more information on the company and how to contact them. Sections H and I will take care of this requirement. You will then sign and date page one.

Page three is used to change ownership of the corporation and to change the tax year for which it files. This page is not always used but is available when needed.

S-Corporation tax returns are filed by the shareholders versus the company. An S-Corporation tax filing deadline is able to be chosen with the IRS form 2553 above. This form is the first form in the IRS recognizing the company as an S-Corporation.
