Registering For A Tax Exempt ID Number

Confused about this whole tax exempt id number? There is no need to worry. If you find that your organization falls into the tax exempt category there are a few forms you will need to fill out to register for your ID number.


Form 1023

This form is around thirty pages long and will ask you things such as what the activities of your organization are your public charity status, and what kind of structure you have within your organization. It will ask about your finances and so forth. You will need to take the time to fill this out fully and completely to get your ID number.

Package 1024

This form is around twenty-five pages long. It has a ton of information to go over, and they also provide a checklist for you to make sure you have collected everything you need before you send it in. This form also asks about your activities and financial data such as your assets and liabilities. As with the form above fill this one out fully and completely.

If you make errors on your application it can cause delays in the process. Applications are processed in the order received, if however you have a very good reason your application can be expedited. Contact the IRS with any further questions you may have.
