IRS tax rebates from the 2007 stimulus bill require you to file your federal income tax return, to have a valid Social Security number and at least $3000 in income to be eligible. The IRS automatically calculates your tax rebate using your 2007 tax return and mails rebate checks from May 2008 through December 31, 2008. Late filers will receive a check within 6 to 8 weeks after filing their income tax return. If direct deposit information was provided on the 2007 tax return, the IRS sends the tax payment via direct deposit.
Ineligible for 2007 Stimulus?
If you were ineligible for the 2007 stimulus tax rebate, you may be able to claim an additional stimulus tax credit on your 2008 taxes. You must file a 2008 tax return claiming the rebate properly. The 2008 tax rebate will be added to any tax refund that you were due on your 2008 tax return, or used to offset any tax owed.
Misdirected Checks
A change of address can cause missing rebate checks. Use the "Where's My Refund" section on the IRS website to update your address. This will allow the IRS to send you all refunds which you may be due at once, including the 2007 and 2008 stimulus tax rebates.
