Will suicide void a life insurance policy?

If an individual commits suicide, life insurance benefits will generally not be paid to that person's beneficiaries. In order to have life insurance paid out, an individual has to die of an accident or of natural causes. If insurance companies paid benefits on suicides, there would be a certain percentage of people who would purchase a life insurance policy before committing suicide in order to provide benefits to their loved ones. The insurance company has to believe that there is no suspicion of suicide in order to pay out the benefits of the policy.
