How to Keep Track of Insurance Due Dates

Chances are you own several insurance policies. You have policies for your car, house, health, life and other things. With so many policies, it can be difficult to keep up with all of the facts surrounding them. One thing that you have to remember on every policy is the due date of the premium. This can be extremely hard to remember because it might not always happen on a regular interval that you are used to dealing with. Some premiums are due once a year, others every six months and others still are due monthly. Remembering the due dates can be difficult, but there are a few things you can do to stay on course.

Calendar

A good old-fashioned calendar is still one of the easiest ways to remember important dates. When you buy the policy, make a note of the premium due date immediately. Write it in bold or with bright colors so that you will remember to pay it.

Computer Program

The vast majority of people use computers today and most computers have some sort of a reminder system built in. You can plug in the date in the computer and it will keep track of everything for you. You can even set it to send you reminders through email or via a pop-up on your desktop. You can set the reminders up to remind you months in advance if you need to start saving for the premium. Then set up another reminder to tell you a few weeks before the due date. This way, you will be able to get the check in the mail in plenty of time.

Cell Phone

You can use your cell phones calendar capability to remind you as well. Try to give yourself reminders so that the date is not a surprise to you. Instead of catching you off guard, have a plan to be able to budget for the expense. For example, the month prior to the due date, program a reminder to start to transfer the funds to pay your insurance bill. Two weeks before the due date, program a reminder to finalize the payment for your insurance. Then, once the due date is upon you, all you need to do is make the payment.

Automate

The easiest way to remember to pay your insurance on time is to sign up for auto-pay with your insurance carriers. Most companies require a voided check or routing number to establish auto-pay. Your monthly payment will be automatically deducted from your bank account.
