How to Collect a Missing Life Insurance Policy

Missing life insurance policy can be quite a problem. If you can't prove that a life insurance policy existed, you can't claim any benefits. If your benefactor's life insurance policy goes missing, you will have to find it, and fast - otherwise, you will have no choice but to shoulder the expenses that you didn't anticipate, which can put considerable strain on your finances and resources.

Finding the Missing Life Insurance Policy

The first thing you should do is try to find your benefactor's life insurance agent and/or life insurance company he or she got the policy from. If you already know what they are, all you will have to do is contact them - they should have the relevant information on file. If not, try looking though your benefactor's paperwork. If that doesn't yield results, contact the state insurance department of whichever state your benefactor lived in and see if they have the record of the policy. If your benefactor lived in more than one state, you may have to repeat this process several times in every relevant jurisdiction.

Collection on the Missing Life Insurance Policy

Once you find your policy, you will have to make the claim. Your benefactor's life insurance company will provide you with the necessary paperwork. Carefully fill it out - if you have any questions, consult the insurance company and/or your lawyer. Once the paperwork is complete, send it to the insurance company along with a copy of your benefactor's death certificate. Your claim should be processed in a few days.
