Workers' compensation insurance is required in 49 out of the 50 US states as of 2010. The only state that does not require workers' compensation insurance is Texas. If you own a business outside out of Texas, you have to buy workers' compensation. Every state has a department that is in charge of the workers' compensation issues in that particular state. This insurance has the ability to protect you from claims by employees. If one of them is injured, they cannot sue you because of the workers' compensation agreement. You provide medical help through the insurance, and they cannot sue.
