The amount of time that it takes for a wire transfer to be completed depends on a variety of factors. Where the transfer is going, how much is being transferred and how it is being transferred all dictate the amount of time it will take to arrive at its destination.
The Method of Transfer
If you are transferring money from your bank account to another during regular business hours, the process should only take a few minutes. The same holds true if you are transferring cash to a bank account, via a system such as Western Union. However, transferring money using a personal check can take several business days, depending on how long it takes for your check to clear.
Domestic or International?
Generally speaking, domestic wire transfers are much quicker than international transactions. Although international wire transfers can take up to 15 business days, most of them are much quicker. If you need the money by a certain time you will want to plan ahead.
Many banks place a limit on the amount of money that can be transferred in one business day. You will have to visit the bank in person to make large transfers.
