There are several different kinds of credit card offers for people with bad credit. With a little investigation, individuals with poor credit can find a credit card to meet their needs.
Secured Cards
Secured credit cards are often offered to individuals with bad credit because they have a small decrease in the risk for the credit card company. These cards require that a deposit be submitted along with the credit card application. Usually, the security deposit is held by the company for a determined length of time that is set by the credit card company and as long as the card holder makes regular and timely payments, the deposit is held in their name.
Unsecured Cards
Another type of credit card that most of us are familiar with is the unsecured card. This type of credit card does not require a deposit, but if you have bad or poor credit, the credit limit may not be initially very high and the interest rate may also be very high when compared to cards available to people with good credit. Over time, with regular and timely payments, a cardholder may be able to negotiate a better interest rate and a higher credit limit.
Summary
For individuals with poor credit, the choice is often between an unsecured card with a high interest rate and low credit limit or a secured card, where they are required to make a deposit in order to open a credit card line.
