Business credit cards have a wide variety of reward options; perhaps one of the most useful rewards is the business travel credit card reward program. Airlines have had their frequent flyer programs in place for a while, and an increasing number of airlines now offer co branded frequent flyer credit cards as an additional means to earn miles with particular airlines or programs.
In order to help you decide the best business travel credit card for you, there are several factors that you should be aware of before you make a decision:
Earning Miles
It is important to choose a card that rewards you for traveling with the airline that you most frequently use. Most airlines will give you bonus miles when you opt for the credit card, and then credit a certain proportion of miles, for every dollar that you spend on that credit card. There are also a number of travel reward credit cards that are not tied to a specific airline, but instead allow points to be accumulated and transferred to a wide array of frequent flyer programs.
The miles accumulation is not only now limited to airlines. Retailers and gas stations are also joining hands with frequent flyer programs and certain credit cards to offer accrual of miles.
Conversion of Miles
As more and more corporations join in the rewards game, rewards are becoming more diversified. Companies associated with business travel like car rentals and hotels are also joining the rewards race. They may not necessarily offer rewards, but, actually convert the miles into rewards. Car rental companies and hotels may accept your miles as a form of payment.
Earning Bonus Miles
If your business travel expense on the credit card in a given period is more than a specific amount, some airlines will offer bonus miles. This expense could earn you a fairly large amount of bonus points. Similarly, certain partners such as hotels, car rental companies and gas stations could also offer bonus miles for purchases in a particular period of time using your business credit card.
Expiration of Miles
While program conditions can vary, most travel reward credit card offer miles without any expiration date assigned to them. This way, you continue accumulating miles until you are ready to use them.
Block-Out Dates
When looking at miles redemption; keep an eye out for any block-out dates. Often, organizations will place restrictions on travel or hotel stays for busy periods, or high seasons, to maximize their profits.
Other Restrictions
Some travel reward based credit cards may allow you to redeem miles accumulated through non-travel purchases on all services except towards attaining a higher status in the frequent flyer program. For example, miles that you accumulate through your credit card purchases may not be counted towards earning tier upgrades from ‘Silver member’ to ‘Gold member’. Similarly, some cards may place a minimum accumulation of points before points can be converted to frequent flier miles on the desired carrier. You may wish to clarify the conditions and restrictions your specific card may place on accumulated miles.
