Anyone who loves finance will want to look into private banking careers. There are multiple avenues to consider for those who are serious about getting into the private banking field. Like any career, you must start at the bottom to rise to the top. These generic banking careers will help you to understand where you may fit in the private banking industry.
Financial Advisor
A financial advisor is someone who is going to be working with multiple clients at a time. They are going to be advising these clients on their various options. Generally, the financial office will work with the client to understand their individual financial goals. They will then work to put together a complete financial plan to meet their needs.
Niche Specialist
Niche specialists will work with clients who have specific needs, rather than a complete financial plan. They will work with people who want to work on their stock options, or people who want to work with different types of savings accounts.
Small Business Advisor
Small business advisors work just like financial advisors, but will do so for a small business. Generally, small businesses are not investing in stocks. They are working with personal financial plans and savings accounts to have a secure financial situation. Small business advisors work with these companies much as a financial advisor does for an individual by understanding needs and planning financial futures.
Individual Wealth Management
Individual wealth management advisors will be working with individual clients on their complete wealth management services. This includes, but is not limited to, financial planning, savings, and portfolios. They work with the client on their complete management. Some banks will have a person who is dedicated to all aspects for one client. Others will have multiple people working for one manager who helps to manage that client.
Research
Some people will be hired for the company to work in research. Their goal is to research the best stock options and best savings options. This research will be used by advisors to make decisions for both personal finance clients and business clients.
Banking
There are banking avenues for careers. These are the people who are moving through and actually making the transactions for these clients
Trading
There are career paths for those who will be making the trading and buying transactions for the stock market. These are often separate than the general bankers because they need a more specific skill set.
Some will find that they want to advise and work with the clients individually. Smaller investment firms may require that this consultant do much of the legwork. Others will simply utilize background men in order to talk to the client about the services. In any career path in private banking, education and knowledge is needed. Each career will require a college degree. If you love finance and have the education to do so, all 7 of these career paths will be of great enjoyment. The trick is to simply figure out which is the best fit for you.
